Objectives

EdUKaid is a small, highly efficient, and effective charity with a clear vision. Founded in 2003, EdUKaid operates in the remote Mtwara region of Tanzania improving both the access to and quality of education for some of the country’s most disadvantaged children living in extreme poverty. Our mission is to make lasting changes by improving education - giving children the opportunity of a better future.

Supporting particularly isolated communities, EdUKaid delivers a range of early-years and primary education focused projects identified and designed in partnership with local communities, government schools and key stakeholders. Our grassroots approach has been key to our success, ensuring high levels of community engagement which has been integral to improving attitudes towards education – particularly the education of girls and children with disabilities and special educational needs.  Since 2003 EdUKaid has positively impacted on the lives of over 20,000 children and brought hope to a whole community.

Activities

Supporting particularly rural and isolated communities EdUKaid has developed effective and scalable solutions in partnership with local stakeholders which enable them to meet the fundamental challenges they face - widening educational access for the most disadvantaged children in a sustainable way.  Our activities include:

  • The provision of vital pre-primary education significantly improving academic attainment, social skills, attendance and successful transition to primary school benefiting over 2500 children annually.
  • Primary school development renovating neglected environments, improving sanitation and hygiene facilities alongside teacher training, leadership and school capacity building activities achieving improved health, better assessment results and increased attendance for almost 9,000 annually.
  • Community involvement programme training parents and community members to support primary schools by undertaking maintenance, helping in class and making resources thus reducing reliance on overseas aid.
  • Inclusive education programme improving access to education for children marginalized due to attitudes towards gender and disability.
  • Extra tuition for those who are struggling to progress through the school system and at highest risk of dropping out of school supporting up to 100 children each week.
