Objectives

We’re Eden Rivers Trust – the only conservation charity standing up for Eden’s rivers; changing the way they are protected, enhanced and used so that people and nature in Cumbria can thrive.

We work in partnership with organisations and local communities, changing the conversation and inspiring and empowering others to breathe new life into our rivers. Together, we’re finding better ways to ensure the Eden can support a brighter future for all.

We’re rethinking Eden’s rivers for good.

Activities

We work with natural processes to protect and enhance Eden's rivers and landscapes: river restoration, flood mitigation, working with farmers to promote good soil health and water friendly farming, creation of new wildlife habitat and protection of species such as crayfish, water voles and fish). For e.g. river re-meandering ( re wiggling -  artificially straightened channels, wetland creation , tree planting, crayfish and fish surveys, building leaky dams, working with farmers to improve the quality of the water management on their farms. WE also have a strong engagement programme, promoting learning about and enjoyment of rivers for all., especially young people ( schools and youth groups) , but also older age groups. We do this through field trips, art and cultural projects, hands on practical volunteering and access projects. We work in partnership for all our projects - with farmers, statutory agencies, local councils, local communities, schools and other environmental charities.
