EAWA is a registered charity that provides services in the Health and Social Care Field. We were established in 1998. Our Mission is: To support, care for, empower and improve the quality of life of older people and their families/carers living within the London Borough of Enfield and Surrounding Boroughs.
1. Provide appropriate communal facilities and qualified/trained staff to assist and manage services;
2. Organise leisure activities and recreational pursuits;
3. Promote education activities, and provide access to information and learning;
4. Organise activities, which promote health, wellbeing and improve quality of life
Through the provision of our services, we seek to enhance the lives of elderly Asians/the Local Community and their Carers/Families within the London Borough of Enfield and Surrounding Boroughs who have need for such facilities by reason of age, infirmity, disablement or social isolation.
Our services are a day care centre for Asian Elderly which caters for 100 places a week.
It has a mixed client group ranging from isolated/frail to more in ‘need of care’ and those with dementia.
We offer health based activities that are tailored, like chair based yoga, extend, health talks, and complementary therapies.
Plus, leisure activities like flower arranging, outings, celebration of festivals, a knitting circle, speakeasy conversation etc.
Finally, we offer people, the chance to meet each other from the locality, make new friends and extend their network and offer Support and Respite for Carers.
EAWA also runs projects open to all communities as follows:
a) We are currently working in partnership with Age UK Enfield, Enfield Over 50’s Forum and Enfield Community Transport to deliver a Falls Prevention project.
b) We also work to raise Awareness about Dementia being a part of Enfield Dementia Action Alliance
c) We have raised funds for Dementia Activity equipment and use this to work with the elderly having dementia.
d) EAWA has also run a number of projects over the years, all of which have been well received like providing Winter Parcels etc.
EAWA's impact has been to break barriers that are faced by elderly people/Carers with health, disability and mental health challenges. EAWA lives by its mission. It works to over come isolation by providing a one stop shop of services; helps older people throughout their ageing process in getting the right help or intervention and supports Carers with respite and to know what is available in the Community, and how to negotiate with Social Services etc, so that they can access the support that they need. EAWA works with all communities and though its main core specialism has been the day care centre, it has more widely contributed to local society with its mix of interventions.
At the core of our organisation is our 100 place a week Day Care centre for Asian Elderly people including:
• Yoga and Chair based Exercise,
• A Hot Lunch (Indian Vegetarian)
• Indian Head Massage and Reflexology
• Flower arranging
• Transport to and from the centre
• Workshops on Healthy Eating and Well-being
• Christmas/Diwali/Eid parties, and Summer Outings
• A knitting circle, arts and crafts, singing, Speakeasy sessions and much more...
• Socialising with those living locally
• Respite for Carers and Special Dementia Activity equipment
