Objectives

DP gives life changing support to asylum seekers and refugees living in Bolton via its weekly Drop in and Casework and Information Service.

Our casework team of senior caseworker, admin assistant and trustee/line manager assists with asylum applications, Section 95 support, appeals, access to health care and transitioning to refugee status, also supporting refused asylum seekers (Section 4 support) in submitting fresh claims without which many would become destitute.   In 2023 our caseworker held 116 face-to-face appointments, 655 remote-support sessions and supported 160 other (walk in) queries.

Our Drop-in provides: hot meal, English lessons, barbering, art and craft, clothes and household goods and games tables; also  food parcels for asylum seekers to supplement their £47.39 week allowance.  In 2023 attendance was 2994 averaging  59 per session, giving 2057 food parcels to asylum seekers (including destitute)

All of DP’s provision is free of charge.

Activities

We currently have a team of 6 trustees, 20 volunteers, 6 helpers and 2 part time casework staff.  Three trustees  carry out day to day management (including of staff) and also prepare funding bids.

As a small charity with a committed and experienced team we have a proven track record (receiving the QAVS in 2020), have weathered crises (maintaining a service throughout the lockdowns when outer operations had to close) and are well supported by our local community and a core of regular funders.

However much of our funding is single year from smaller providers and although current board members have a secure grasp on our finances as well as the support of a Finance Officer and professional accountants we do not have a Treasurer.  A successful appointment will allow us to grow our funding portfolio and release trustees to develop our operation to better meet growing demand and enhance networking/collaboration with the business and non-profit sectors.
