Dorset Reading Partners provides local primary schools with trained volunteer reading partners who offer 1:1 help to young readers.. Our aim is to make reading fun and introduce children to a wide range of reading materials in order to build up their confidence, motivation and vital literacy skills.
Dorset Reading Partners recruits, vets, trains, equips and supports volunteers in order for them to provide the best quality help to their young readers. Once trained, our volunteer reading partners go into a local school for two hours each week during term time. They work 1:1 with the same four children over the school year, seeing each child for half an hour outside the classroom. Using resources supplied by us, they talk, share books and play games in order to build up children's confidence and motivation as well as increasing their enjoyment of reading, all of which are essential to their literacy development.
