Objectives

We seek to promote the well-being of the whole community, economy and environment of Dorset.  We aim to build and sustain an open, accessible and flexible network and alliance which

1. Put climate and ecological awareness at the heart of all decision-making

2. Provide a voice for all who care about these issues;  inform, educate and support people throughout the county;  and serve as a hub for information, engagement and action

3. Serve as an expert, inspirational and creative agency for change, working with parish and town councils, private and community organisations to generate policies and grass-roots actions which promote the well-being of the County and the mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change

4. Act as a positive partner and critical friend of Dorset Council, BCP Council and all other stakeholders.

Our help matters because the involvement of the communities and we represent and serve it is absolutely vital in tackling the great issue of climate change and the enrichment of wildlife habitats in the county of Dorset.  since we only started work in October 2020, it is too early to judge our impact.

Activities

We have created a substantial network of supporters and members. Over the seven months since our creation, we have built up a circulation list of over 500 people or organisations, spread throughout the county. After active consultation within the network, we have submitted vigorous and detailed responses to two major public consultation documents published by Dorset Council, namely the draft Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy and the draft Dorset Local Plan. We are in process on building a programme of our own initiatives.
