The Dorking Bandstand project has three aims: to provide a physical memorial to those who suffered during the Pandemic; to act as a focus to commemorate the work of NHS staff; key workers; volunteers and others who helped us through the pandemic and to provide a much needed permanent outdoor performance site in the centre. of Dorking.
We intend the bandstand to be a focus of community activity: music; dramatic performances and to be available for a wide range of other uses - this benefitting as wide as possible range of users.
We intend to be as inclusive as possible in encouraging users, particularly underrepresented groups in our society and as a wide as possible age range.
Currently we are going though the process of gathering community support for the project. We have strong interest and support from the local council; we have achieved planning permission and agreement of the landowner MVDC that we can build on the chosen site.
We now need help in realising our vision!
