We launched in the UK in 2013 with a key mission to increase the pool of lifesaving blood stem cell donors. We believe that not one single person suffering with a blood cancer should die because they are unable to find a match. Someone is diagnosed with blood cancer in the UK every 20 mins, and every 45 mins blood cancer takes a life in the UK. Blood cancers affect the production and function of your blood cells. For many blood cancer patients, a stem cell donation is their only chance of survival, but only half of the people diagnosed in the UK find a matching donor. That is why every single donor counts. Everyone has the chance to save a life. It could be YOU! The only way we can win the race to save lives is to work together!
DKMS organises donor recruitment events throughout the country to register new potential donors. You can register in person at a donor event, or order a 'do-it-yourself' registration kit.
Registering one potential stem cell donor costs £40. We appreciate it when our potential donors cover some or all of the costs of their own registration, but it's not compulsory. This is why we need monetary donations to further expand the DKMS donor database. The full amount of the financial contribution is used to register new potential donors.
