Objectives

Disability Sports Coach (DSC) uses the unique power of sport to enhance the lives of disabled people. Our objectives are to: - Improve disabled people's physical, mental and social wellbeing through weekly exercise and activity - Empower disabled people to enjoy more activities and feel more integrated in their local community - Train disabled people to become volunteers and coaches, creating a more representative workforce.

Disabled people are twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people and that's often because they can't access sport. We break down the barriers to sport so that everyone can play.

Just 1 in 4 disabled school children say they regularly take part in sport at school. We upskill PE teachers so they know how to include disabled children in lessons.

Activities

We widen the participation of disabled people in sport through:-

  1. Community Clubs:  DSC runs Inclusive Community Sports Clubs. Our award-winning community clubs provide weekly sports activities for disabled people of all ages and any impairment.
  2. Coaching:  Our coaches go into schools and colleges and run inclusive and adapted sports sessions for disabled participants.
  3. Training : We want to make sure that every disabled child and young person has a PE teacher who is equipped with the skills to teach disability sport. That's why we offer training to coaches, teachers and community groups so they have the know-how to adapt sport.
  4. Inclusive Activity Leaders: We provide free training and mentoring for disabled people to grow their careers as sports coaches – improving employability whilst creating a more diverse and representative workforce.
