Our objective is to promote Health and Well Being through walking and enhance our beautiful Devon Environment. In Devon we have over 2,500 members, who have chosen to join one of our 12 Groups. Each group organises its own walks programme, social activities and holidays, and deals with issues such as planning applications and path problems within its area. The Devon Area part of our Ramblers organisation exists to co-ordinate the activities of our Groups and membership in Devon on matters of common interest, particularly in dealing with organisations such as Devon County Council and Dartmoor National Park. It also acts as the main linkage between Ramblers Central Office in London and our Groups. Our Devon structure includes Volunteer Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Footpath Secretary, Media Secretary, Data Master, "Don't Lose Your Way" Coordinator and other roles. Group structure is similar.
Provision of safe (and Covid safe) risk assessed walks led by trained Walk Leaders organised through each geographically based Group. Risk Assessment of our Registered walks with membership reporting of issues, such as paths being blocked, running into disrepair etc, to local authorities for maintenance. Ramblers also work with; the Highway Authority to help maintain safe public access to walks, DEFRA to help establish new walking pathways, Natural England in the development of the South West Coast Path and other organisations where our input and help can serve to maintain and improve the walking environment within Devon.
