Objectives

Daybreak is a charity that helps vulnerable children and their families, particularly children at risk of being taken into care.

We do this by means of Family Group Conferences (FGCs) – a comprehensive process through which the child’s extended family create their own plan of how they will all come together to look after the child. Throughout this process, the family is given comprehensive, accurate and detailed information, along with extensive guidance and support. Once approved by social services or the courts, the plan is enacted and monitored to ensure that the child is well cared for. So children remain cherished, safe and happy within their own extended family, rather than being entrusted to the care of strangers.

Activities

We are the only organisation in the UK, and possibly the world, that focuses solely on Family Group Conferences (FGCs) — we are the specialists. Within that specialism, our work covers all aspects of FGCs, including delivery, education, training, and research.

Working closely with Local Authorities across England, we currently help more than 2000 children and their families per year.
