We are a small local charity supporting people with higher functioning autism, and we do this by providing advice, information, support, well-being groups and social activities. What we do matters because its a cause that isn't always well considered, and people with autism have suffered particularly during the pandemic as they like routine, they dislike change and they have communication and behavioural difficulties. We are very keen to hear from volunteers who would like to be trustees, and we would particularly appreciate people who have marketing or similar skills as we need to be able to expand our reach.
We have a number of social groups for different ages, interests and characteristics and these meet regularly to encourage people with autism to socialise, develop strategies for coping and learning new skills. We run an information and advice service in which we provide one to one support for individuals newly diagnosed, and we provide assistance with welfare rights, tribunals, employment challenges and signpost to appropriate providers.
