Objectives

First and foremost The Darren Deady Foundation provides a free service . Our beneficiaries are forces veterans and their family members and also those who are 'in need' in our local community. Even though our expertise lay's with veterans , our ethos is that we will help anyone who comes to us for help. It is the humanitarian thing to do.

When it comes to people in general that are in need, the foundation mainly will receive referrals from other organisations or people can self refer. We will help people in the BL postcode. However when it comes to forces veterans, we work predominantly in the BL postcode area but on regular occasion we do get approached to help veterans in other districts in Manchester ,Wigan, Chorley, Preston, Blackpool, Liverpool. We have been as far as Devon and up into Scotland for veterans that have been in distress and needed to be back around family in the BL district.

We provide a support service and a referral service. We work alongside a number of organisations. Some military, some not. We can help provide referrals for homeless veterans , will soon be able to have them living on a temp basis at our new site when it opens in 2024 in Westhoughton. We will then work to find them permanent accommodation.

At the foundation we have small but well utilised foodbank for emergency provision and it is free. We can provide support for benefits and debt , refer into mental health services , provide a befriending service , admin service and we can also provide furniture and white goods to those we help to rehome or people whom are referred to us because they haven't got these items i.e. referrals from Adult Services.

Once our centre opens we will be having different organisations provide regular , free drop in sessions and providing services that are not currently found in the Westhoughton, Horwich and Blackrod areas.  We also hope to have hobby classes,  life skills classes , breakfast clubs and day trips.  We have been doing all of this work remotely for the past 3 years nearly and have been extremely busy. We have helped to rehome over 50 people in 3 years. We have helped to feed over 200 families and 324 single people (on more than one occasion with many ) Those are just a couple of figures I have to hand.

Activities

To meet our financial objectives we fundraise and have events and also apply for grant funding. We put together action plans, strategies, policies and review them to enable us to reach our goals . Training for volunteers is provided at every opportunity.
