Objectives

Cumbria Wildlife Trust is the local environmental charity working for wildlife and people in the two counties of Cumbria: Westmorland and Furness, and Cumberland.  Our vision is:

A Cumbria in which land and seas are rich in wildlife, and where people are closer to nature.

As one of 46 independent Wildlife Trusts across the UK, our mission is to:

  • Bring back wildlife and restore habitats across the two counties. We look after more than 42 nature reserves (around 10,000 acres) which play a vital role at the heart of the nature recovery network we want to build
  • Find and deliver a range of nature-based solutions to help address the climate emergency
  • Inspire, empower and enable people to connect with, and take action for nature everywhere, wherever they live, work and play

Activities

Cumbria Wildlife Trust benefits from the support of 15,000 members, over 1500 volunteers, 11 trustees and currently employs around 70 staff. We look after nature reserves, deliver nature recovery projects and lead partnerships, speak out for wildlife, work with local people and communities, promote events and environmental education, secure better access to nature, seek to influence public policy and legislation and promote nature and human wellbeing.
