I am a Social Worker with extensive experience in Finland and in the UK, with over 13-years’ professional experience working as Social Services Coordinator with adolescents and as a Unit Resettlement Manager, working with Unaccompanied Minor Refugees and Asylum Seekers at the Finnish Immigration Service.
I have extensive knowledge and expertise in providing life-changing support to young people in particular, in my current role as Case Manager in the Youth Offending Team in Hampshire County Council, working with young people, aged 10 to 17 who have become involved with the Criminal Youth Justice System.
I have a tremendous passion for supporting young people and families to ensure that they thrive and flourish by making a conscious, deliberate determined effort. I strongly believe that the battle is in the mind hence one of my favourite quotes is:
"When life knocks you down you better land on your back, ‘cos if you can look up you can get up’’.
I come from an ethnic minority background and I can relate to most of what similar young people are going through. I have experienced marginalisation and I know what it means to be on the disadvantaged end of the spectrum. I have faced trials and hardship including the death of my father, mother and two of my sisters, yet I overcame those challenges. Therefore, I see myself as a great role model to them. These young boys and underprivileged men and their families can look up to me and see that change is possible.
I have come to realise that there is a huge need and gap which is still not met in terms of services to young boys and sometimes there is lack of understanding within especially black and ethnic minority young boys who do not have role model figures in their lives. They need someone from a similar background and experience with whom they can relate to. I can relate to them with my experience and passion for the community hence I felt deep within me that the best way to meet their needs is to open a community organisation despite having the option to apply for a well-paid job due to my wealth of experience.
Purpose of my organisation
My mission is to mentor, inspire and deliver empowerment and resilient workshops to less privileged and disadvantaged boys, men and their families to enable them to become more resilient and fulfil their maximum potential.
My vision is to transform the lives of less privileged and disadvantaged boys, men and their families to unlock their full potential and become successful in life.
My objectives include but not limited to, reduce the rate of youth delinquency by proactively addressing anti-social behaviours, limit suicide rate among young people, limit the percentage of youth who drop out of school, reduce the rate of knife crime among young boys with ethnic minority background whose parents are absent and to increase the percentage of young male role models for their peers.
