We look after family carers, who are generally unpaid, by sending in qualified care support workers to look after the cared-for (whether an adult or child) so that the family carers can have some well-earned respite. This may be for a few hours daily or weekly or, in the case of palliative care, for overnight sittings so that the family carers can get some sleep. Sometimes our CSWs take out the cared-for on an excursion which again relieves the weight of responsibility on the family carers.
It ensures that all our Care Support Workers are well-trained (at least to an NVQ Level 2) in basic nursing care and are also empathetic in that they understand the needs of both the carers and the cared-for.
