We provide respite care for carers. Carers are people who spend a high proportion of their time looking after other people- generally their close relatives - who need care because they are suffering from serious illness or disabilities. The carers we provide respite care for are unpaid , but their caring work is hard and stressful ,and if they have no respite from such stress, it can lead to illness. we give carers respite in terms of time off to do whatever they want. This alleviates the severe stress which carers can suffer from, and reduces the possibility that carers will become ill to the extent that they have to go into hospital. If this happens, then the people they care for would also have to leave home and go into hospital or residential care. Our respite care helps to prevent such distress, and also indirectly reduces NHS expenditure.
Typically, we offer carers three hours respite per week during which the person they care for is looked after by one of the well trained Carer Support Workers we employ . During this time, the carer is freed from her or his heavy caring duties and responsibilities
