At Crossness Engines, volunteers are working together to transform a Victorian sewage pumping station into a museum of national importance. With over £3 million funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic England, the Cory Environmental Trust and other funders, we are opening the doors to the public, while moving towards delivering a business plan which will allow us to continue to share this history in the future.
Crossness opens to volunteers three days a week to enable their work on restoring and conserving the magnificent beam engines and buildings. We also open to the public a number of times a year, offering both group tours and unguided visits. Last year we welcomed over 4000 visitors.
