Objectives

The Credit Union Foundation was founded by the Association of British Credit Unions (ABCUL) to carry out a different but complementary role to that of ABCUL, for the benefit of the credit union sector and its members.  The main object of the Foundation is to advance education in matters pertaining to credit unions and their potential in relieving poverty and need.

Activities

The Credit Union Foundation fulfils its Objects in a number of ways. Recent and current work includes:

 Delivery of a £4million four year grants programme as well as supporting their signposting and skills based volunteering work in partnership with the Lloyds Banking Group.

 As part of our relationship with Citi and Citi Foundation

o CU Futures programme to develop young people across the sector

o Funding to develop ABCUL Insight, a financial analysis tool for credit unions

o Funding to develop content and modules for ABCUL Academy an online training resource for credit unions.

o Delivery of a research programme to understand best practice employer partnerships with credit unions and the financial needs of low income workers.

 As part of our relationship with Scape Group

o Funding to build the framework of ABCUL Academy an online training resource for credit unions.

o Developing a financial education programme in schools including developing a educational resource in partnership with Lanarkshire Credit Union.

o Supporting the Welsh credit union sector by funding a Policy Office to engage with credit unions and the Welsh Assembly.
