We aim to:
We worry about the serious environmental problems we all face locally and globally but we also see an environmentally sustainable future as something that is positive, rational, desirable and accessible – as something that will enhance our lives, our work, our organisations and our communities.
That’s why, though we love science and embrace appropriate technology and they are an integral part of our projects, we also believe sustainability is as much about ‘the art of life’ and therefore learning and thinking for its own sake, art, adventure, fun and creative thinking are also at the heart of what we do.
At the centre of all our work is the assumption of inclusion. That’s why much of our work is focused on those for whom the world is harder to navigate than it might be for others. We work with schools and organisations which support people with disadvantaged backgrounds and disabilities and strive always to overcome barriers to inclusion.
We run several projects to reach our objectives some examples are:
Access Bike
Bikes, open workshop and personal development courses for young people in Stroud.
Every young person needs a bike and young riders tend to stay riding as adults, which is great for the environment. But some young people and their families just can’t afford it. It’s a simple idea – we find unwanted bikes, train young people to do them up and give them to people who need them.
Cotswold Canals Connected
Creative Sustainability is delighted to be working with the partnership and local communities to develop the community engagement strategy for the canal restoration project.
We will be working with local people, community groups and businesses, making sure everyone who wants to can take part so that the restoration project is inclusive, community-led and benefits local people and communities, wildlife and heritage.
Re Connect
The Re Connect project offers a peer befriending scheme in Gloucestershire for people affected by Stroke, Dementia, Aphasia, and other long term health conditions, and their carers.
Creative Camping
Since forever we have been taking young people camping, and not to proper camp sites! We love the idea of making a home for the weekend in a beautiful and unspoilt environment, foraging and working together to make food, fire and fun. The only difference is that now we take disabled young people with us too – they love it because we’re not taking care of them, we’re simply including them in good stuff. Sometimes it’s complicated, sometimes it is really tiring, but its always hilarious fun and just about the most rewarding thing we’ve ever done.
Going the Extra Mile
Creative Sustainability are a host organisation for the GEM project we have a GEM Navigator Developer on our team.
The Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Project is committed to help move people closer towards education, training, volunteering or work, including self-employment.
This programme will reconnect people with their local services through their communities and ultimately help them achieve their desired outcome, whether through a working or educational related route. The GEM Project understands that everyone is unique, with different needs and requirements, impacting on their step into the world of employment, education or training.
