Creative People & Places is Arts Council England’s major national investment in engaging new people and communities in the arts. In Hounslow it is a consortium of five organisations, including community arts organisations, Hounslow Music Service and the local authority, and is led by Watermans.
The 10-year vision is to build a confident, colourful and creative borough. We will do this by boosting Arts capacity in the borough through: the development of four Local Advisory Groups in Feltham, Hounslow Central, Heston and Cranford and Brentford; putting on free, high quality outdoor arts events; supporting small arts organisations in Hounslow by giving small grants and 1:1 business support.
Together, we are creating a Hounslow where:
Everyone in the borough - no matter who or where they are - has an equal chance to be creative, and to enjoy the creativity of others
We support each other to turn our creative ideas into reality
We all get stuck in - and each play our part in creating the kind of borough we want to live in
We can choose from a vibrant, exciting programme of creative events that reflects our place and the people who live here
We are proud of Hounslow, and of the ideas and creativity that are nourished here
Creative People & Places Hounslow exists to support local people to lead the creative activity they most want to see in their borough. We support Hounslow’s people to build a confident, colourful and creative borough - celebrating our place and building a more vibrant, active Hounslow.
Creative people & Places Hounslow is part of the Creative People and Places programme, initiated and funded by Arts Council England. Creative People and Places is about more people taking the lead in choosing, creating and taking part in art experiences in the places where they live. There are 21 independent projects, each located in an area where people have traditionally had fewer opportunities to get involved with the arts. Creative People and Places projects have reached over 1.2 million people, 90% of whom do not regularly engage in the arts.
Creative People & Places Hounslow is all about supporting local people to make decisions about the creative activity that happens in our borough. Hounslow is a big place, and each area has a distinct local character. For that reason, planning is led by ‘Local Advisory Groups’ (LAGs). Each Local Advisory Group is made up of people who live, work or have a connection to Hounslow, and who have a passion for shaping its future. Members work in their own neighbourhood to understand what their communities need, as well as what inspires, excites and resonates with local people. Together, they decide on the creative activity that best fits the unique shape of their place.
No special experience is needed to become a member of your LAG, just a love for your area and a willingness to get stuck in. People from a whole range of backgrounds are really welcome - in fact, that’s what makes our advisory groups so special. In return, you’ll find a welcoming community of neighbours, plenty of support to make your ideas reality, and perhaps an opportunity to learn something new.
