Objectives

CPU London is a 53-year-old mental health charity providing free and low-cost, long-term psychotherapy for people on benefits and low incomes suffering from mental ill-health. Its mission is to fulfil the ethos of social justice and commitment to accessible psychological help for all irrespective of social and economic status. CPU London upholds the value of long-term psychotherapy being available in the wider community. Since its founding in 1969 CPU London has provided a service of clinical excellence which offers two years of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

CPU London runs on a dynamic and cost-effective clinical model that combines an experienced clinical team aided by a group of trainee psychotherapists. By offering clinical placements to trainees CPU London supports the training of the next generation of psychoanalytic psychotherapists.

Activities

CPU provides free and low-cost long-term (up to two years) psychotherapy for people on benefits and low incomes suffering from mental ill-health. We champion the cause of long-term psychotherapy because matching long-term difficulties with long-term treatment is highly effective. When we improve our patients’ mental health, we also help another 4-5 people closely connected to them and we lessen the burden on the NHS.
