CPRE campaigns for a beautiful and living countryside. We were formed in 1926 and now have about 60,000 members and supporters. There are eight regional groups covering each English region (but excluding London), 43 county branches covering each English county and over 200 district groups. CPRE achieves its objectives through national, regional and local campaigns.
CPRE West Midlands is one of the eight regional groups and is where this role is based.
CPRE occupies a unique position in that its concerns embrace not only the environmental aspects of the countryside but also those of rural communities. With expert volunteers in all the English counties it has built invaluable expertise over many years in policy areas such as planning, housing, transport and rural affairs.
The regional group’s role is to support the activities of CPRE nationally and in county branches in the West Midlands region (Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire branch areas) as well as monitoring and influencing sub-regional bodies such as Local Enterprise Partnerships
Priorities for the West Midlands Regional group are as follows:
• Strengthening our regional volunteering base and supporting development of our Branches
• Support for Branches dealing with Local Plans and Development proposals
• Lobbying at a Sub-regional and regional level
• Contributing to National Planning work
• Publicity and Press Work to promote CPRE in the region
