Objectives

We’re passionate about making Staffordshire's countryside a better place for everyone to live, work and enjoy. We believe in countryside and green spaces that are accessible to all, rich in nature and playing a crucial role in responding to the climate emergency.

Activities

Protecting the Countryside

We respond to all Local Plan consultations and comment on a considerable number of planning applications, particularly those that threaten the Green Belt and open countryside.

Our volunteer planning advisor has guided neighbourhood action groups across the county in navigating the complexities of the planning system and responding to threats.

We comment in support of developments on suitable brownfield sites (land that’s previously been built on, and now sits derelict or vacant) such as the former Alstom factory in Stafford and Rugeley Power Station.

Promoting the Countryside

We run an annual awards scheme for conservation and environmental work by schools and our stargazing nights give children the chance to enjoy the wonders of a dark, starry sky.

Our calendar competition has enabled many talented photographers to showcase their work in our 2024 calendar, available from our online shop.

Enhancing the Countryside

We have planted trees and hedges around the county, most recently over 2.5km of new hedgerows through our Hedgerow Heroes project. We’ve held several Green Clean events to press for the introduction of a Deposit Return Scheme to reduce littering.
