Objectives

We are a small, independent charity, which produces the annual Cowley Road Carnival, along with a programme of year round arts and outreach. The Carnival is one of the biggest, free, outdoor cultural events in Oxford and one of the most successful carnivals in the UK. Cowley Road Works want to increase the delivery of arts and cultural events within the diverse community of East Oxford. This is an exciting time to join us as we plan to build on the success of Carnival 2017, which saw over 45,000 visitors enjoy a day of art, music, dance, food, poetry and performance.

For eight years CRW has been using arts and culture as a platform to interact with different groups facing a range of social and cultural barriers. Through our work we raise funds, awareness and access to cultural and arts based learning, activity and engagement, regardless of socio-economic barriers.

The work carried out by CRW is inclusive: it brings together all ages, all ethnic, social and economic groups.

Our four strategic objectives mirror the organisations vision:

  • To engage diverse communities through exposure to excellence in arts and culture.
  • To deliver a rolling programme of county wide outreach.
  • To create opportunities to nurture talent, skills and development.
  • To continue to build a sustainable organisation, providing meaningful social impact, from a strong funding base.

Activities

Our main activity is the production of Cowley Road Carnival. As well as providing opportunities for training, mentoring and skills sharing, we inspire people of all ages to join in and be a part of a shared social experience -something that has a legacy and value to the community at large.
