The Contented Dementia Trust is an independent charity with an innovative and positive approach to the care of people with dementia. Its vision is as profound as it is simple: a world where the onset of dementia is no longer viewed with fear because it is possible to sustain well-being all day, every day, for life - even with a diagnosis of dementia. The Trust offers a programme of the individualised care, known as the SPECAL method, which is underpinned by a particular understanding of dementia as experienced by the person with the condition. The SPECAL approach has been described in the book, "Contented Dementia", by the clinical psychologist, Oliver James.
The Contented Dementia Trust provides training for family and professional carers with outstandingly positive results.
