Concrete Youth is an award-winning, Hull-based theatre company, specialising in touring exceptional, multi-sensory theatre for audiences living with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). All of our work is performed in an accessible, calm, and multi-sensory environment, complimented with live music, singing, Makaton and much more!
Our education arm provides excellent, bespoke workshops to schools in a range of different areas, weekly after-school clubs, private and group sensory stories, and tuition in LAMDA examinations. All facilitators are industry professionals, qualified, DBS-checked, public liability insured, first-aid, and Makaton trained.
Concrete Youth's current activities include:
- Our touring productions - We make immersive, multi-sensory theatre for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
- Sensory Storybook - Concrete Youth's new initiative to provide people in Hull living with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), with more access to sensory arts. Sessions involve our professional, sensory experts delivering an exceptional story to people living with profound and multiple learning disabilities, through multi-sensory arts. Each session includes group interaction and singing, and the use of Makaton sign language.
- Signing Sundays - Concrete Youth's programme to get the UK signing. Each week, a local artist, company or representative from Concrete Youth records themselves performing a new sign, these signs are then posted on our social media platforms.
- Training programmes - we offer courses and workshops for people who are neurotypical on how to work effectively with people living with PMLD.
