Objectives

Community Focus is an inclusive arts organisation based in Friary Park, Barnet, founded in 1978. We work with artists across disciplines - mixed media art, ceramics, painting, drama, model making, computing, amongst others - predominantly working with artists with learning disabilities. Our in-house programme caters for adults of all ages, Articulate works with young adults aged 16-25 and Short Breaks works with children aged 11-18. We also undertake outreach work in our local community including care homes and libraries and engage with national organisations such as theatres and galleries to showcase the work we produce.

Activities

We believe in:

  • Excellence within the arts.
  • Social mobility.
  • Inclusivity as a norm.
  • Solving problems in our communities using creativity.
  • The health and well-being that the arts offer.
  • The transferable skill sets that the arts brings.

We are looking for patient and mature volunteers with empathy and a strong sense of FUN.

You will assist in the provision of our arts classes - you will work with our staff and our artists/participants providing emotional and practical support and engendering engagement with arts practice. This may involve collaborating on pieces of work/tasks or encouraging participants, hanging work, making tea/coffee, sharing a chat, a dance or a laugh!
