Objectives

“The foodbank was there when we really needed it, it was an absolute lifeline”

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry.

The mission of Colchester Foodbank is to “prevent or relieve poverty in Colchester and the surrounding area, in particular but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies”.

Colchester Foodbank is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and a franchise of the Trussell Trust, a community of food banks that share best practice and expertise, and campaigns nationally for policies to address the underlying causes of food poverty. Colchester Foodbank actively drives those campaigns locally. The foodbank manages 11 satellite sites in and around Colchester, having grown substantially in response to rising demand over the last few years.

Activities

Through a network of local referral partners we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in hardship. We fed 24,500 last year (to April 2023) and offer a warm welcome, a listening ear and signposting support to everyone visiting the food bank.  In addition, we signpost clients to specialist agencies who may be able to help with specific issues.
