Objectives

Citizens Advice South Somerset helps clients prepare for and manage through key life events and change by delivering information, advice and casework support as well as education prevention programmes.  We achieve this through delivery of:

  • our traditional advice services,
  • specialist projects and casework; and
  • advocacy, research and campaigning.

We were founded in 1961 and are a member of the National Citizens Advice Network.  We help about 6000 clients a year in the South Somerset area (roughly 5% of the population). We have a dedicated team of 22 staff and 50 volunteers and work in partnership with many local agencies

Activities

As a result of using our services our clients benefit from:

  • Greater Independence – clients benefit from gaining knowledge and a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities enabling them to move forward with support to address their issues. 
  • Better Prospects – clients benefit from learning to budget, reducing their living expenses. managing their affairs,  making and managing welfare claims.
  • Improved Wellbeing – clients benefit from increased confidence to seek and use advice and support, reduced risk of crisis, prevention of harm (scams, debt and abuse), reduced anxiety and improved circumstances and opportunities.
