Objectives

Chiltern Samaritans is focused on supporting the Samaritans' vision of fewer people dying by suicide. The Branch supports callers by email, chat, phone and in person.  Chiltern Samaritans also actively engages with the local community and nurtures a strong branch culture by supporting its local volunteers.

The highly trained volunteers run an active outreach programme in prisons, schools and local organisations and groups.  The team also supports survivors of bereavement by suicide.

In Spring 2025 Chiltern Samaritans is moving to new, larger premises in Amersham, providing the opportunity for a number of new initiatives and our team of volunteers.

Activities

We give people time and space to express their feelings in a confidential, non-judgemental and safe environment. We never tell people what to do and we never judge. Being there for callers and listening without judgement helps callers address their issues and helps ease their distress.

Our key objective is to be able to have enough listening volunteers to fill all our shifts.  We operate 6 shifts per day 7 days a week and always need at least 2 volunteers on a shift.  The recruitment and training of volunteers and all key functions in the branch such as IT support, facilities management, administration etc are performed by volunteers.
