Objectives

We are a registered charity, and provide dedicated nursing, residential and respite care for up to 32 elderly residents in our care home in Corbridge, Northumberland. As a not for profit care home, any surplus income is reinvested back into our care home for the benefit of our residents.

We serve the community of Tynedale and beyond into wider Northumberland and one of our aims is to financially support those residents who are disadvantaged and cannot afford to pay care home fees. This means that we admit local authority (LA) funded residents according to how much they need care rather than their ability to pay.

Activities

Our charitable work helps eliminate loneliness and social isolation. Each year, we seek to raise funds to help fund “top up fee shortfalls” and to improve facilities in our care home. “Top-up fee shortfalls” are paid to make up the difference between the actual cost of care in our care home and the payment that a local authority is willing to make. Many of our residents have lived in the local community all their lives, need significant nursing or residential care but do not have the financial means to pay full care home fees to continue to live in this area. Our charitable income helps to fund this shortfall in fees, to help those who want to live at Charlotte Straker House and be near their family and friends.

We invest money back into Charlotte Straker House, so it is a warm and welcoming environment that our residents are proud to call home. We fund life-enhancing activities, outings and services offering unique memories and opportunities for our residents. We invest in our staff, so they have the training they need to provide the very best care for our residents and thrive in their career aspirations. And we invest in technology, which supports us to enrich our residents’ lives, from an electronic care planning app the “Tiny Tablet” which enable our residents to interact with each other and play games.
