Objectives

The Charles Causley Trust works on a local, national and international level to promote enhance and develop the legacy of Cornish poet Charles Causley and to provide opportunities for the local community to engage with writing and the arts, particularly young people. We run a writer in residence programme providing 2 three month long paid residencies at Charles' former home in Cornwall. These writers work with local schools and community groups including U3A, Memory Cafe, Access Theatre and library groups and this works allows us to reach out to our local community which is in an economically deprived part of the South West and take arts and culture to the heart of it.

Activities

We run a national poetry competition for school children and an international poetry competition for adults. We run an annual festival of arts and literature in the town as well as having working partnerships with Cornwall Council, Launceston Council, English Heritage, Exeter University, Plymouth University and Falmouth University. As well as providing arts and cultural opportunities through these partnerships, we are able to offer paid internships and student residencies through them as well helping to sustain and encourage the next generation of arts leaders.
