Objectives

Charity Buddy is here to benefit animals and their habitats.

We only work within animal welfare groups and related organisations associated with their habitats. Whether indirectly through our offer of free business and creative support to our animal welfare partners, or directly through our pet rescue service, our sanctuary for older animals, or our rewilding site, which provides an undisturbed habitat for wildlife at our HQ in Surrey, we aim to deliver positive results that improve the lives of animals throughout Britain.

Activities

Our Free Business and Creative Support

We currently have a group of Charity Buddy volunteers with business expertise and creative skills operating on a pro bono basis. Volunteers are deployed by us to help our animal welfare partners (and related environmental groups) with relevant tasks and projects.

Our aim is to connect our skilled volunteers with animal welfare organisations that need to access skills and expertise that they may not generally use, and our volunteers enjoy the opportunities of short term volunteering for many different categories of animal welfare charity or voluntary sector organisation, such as wildlife, pets, rewilding, campaigning, rehoming, sanctuaries etc.

Tasks and projects are identified by us to suit our volunteer's particular requirements, bearing in mind the amount of time available, and the type of opportunity that is likely to be if interest. We speak to every volunteer to discuss exactly what is likely to be of interest, and volunteers can tailor every volunteering opportunity to suit their personal lifestyle and commitments. Typical skills required include:

PR, Marketing, Website Development, Finance, GDPR and Data Protection, Social Media, Fundraising Consultants, Administration, Charity Governance, Human Resources, Recruitment, Information Management/Technology, General Management, Digital, Artists, Designers, Crafters, Creative Writers, and more.

Our Pet Rescue Service

We are actively involved in the rescue and rehoming of pets in need, following neglect, abuse or abandonment. We also are busy in the process of creating a national pet adoption platform that will enable the public to adopt and rehome their pets more safely and efficiently.

Our Sanctuary for Older Animals

Our sanctuary for geriatric animals is based in Surrey at our HQ, where we care for a number of elderly horses and ponies, sheep, and hens in their later years. These animals are not rehomable due to their medical conditions, costs, and they will remain with us in our care.

Our Rewilding Project

Located at our HQ in Alfold we are currently rewilding a 30-acre site that was previously used as unimproved grazing land. Having teamed up with a group of young rewilding enthusiasts (Youngwilders), we are keen to restore this land to provide undisturbed habitats for ground nesting birds, breeding birds, and whatever flora and fauna flourishes here. We are in the very early stages, but with support from Surrey Wildlife Trust we have already undertaken a range of habitat surveys, and we are pleased to have identified areas of ancient woodland and birds of interest such as Nightingales.
