Objectives

Chapeltown Community Nursery is a 45 year old charity providing day care facilities in Leeds 7 to children from 1 to 5 years and run by a voluntary management committee.

7% of the Leeds 7 population are estimated to be 4 years and under. Too many of these young people live in poverty with reduced opportunities.

Chapeltown Community Nursery seeks to address these inequalities, and help our communities. Established in 1973 the nursery has four key functions:

  • the provision of day care facilities for children
  • stimulating their growth and development through play
  • the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation which will improve their conditions of life
  • the fostering of good community relations

Unlike other childcare providers our building is purpose built with a large dedicated outdoor space. As well as our day care facility we offer stay and play sessions to the whole community.

Activities

We work to fill our capacity and offer low cost childcare to our beneficiaries. We are applying for ongoing grants and funding to improve our facilities without increasing childcare costs. We have received big lottery funding and are in the process of renovating and improving accessibility at the nursery to widen our intake and offer more community benefits. As part of this we are updating our play equipment with support of our 'Friends' group, community members volunteering to supporting the nursery and our projects.
