Objectives

Caudwell LymeCo's vision is that all Lyme disease sufferers can be diagnosed, treated and completely cured on the NHS - something that doesn't currently happen.

In order to achieve this vision, we aim to fund research which finds a truly accurate test, and an effective treatment for all people with Lyme disease.

We also campaign to raise awareness, educate the public on tick bite prevention, and provide information and support to Lyme disease patients.

There are thought to be around 10.000 cases of Lyme disease each year in the UK, but due to unreliable testing and a lack of knowledge and understanding around the disease, the true figure is unknown. The likelihood is that it;s much higher.

Early diagnosis and treatment is key to making a full recovery, but there are thousands of people in the UK who have struggled to get the right care and are now suffering with chronic illness due to the disease. Many have had to pay thousands for private testing and treatment, with varying outcomes, and many more have given up hope of ever being cured.

Only objective scientific evidence will change the way these patients are treated on the NHS, and we want to find research to help make these changes happen.

Activities

We fundraise in order to build up our research fund.

We also campaign to raise awareness through our social media, website, and our free online educations talks, as well as attending events and conferences.

We also run a patient helpdesk service, giving advice based on the NICE Guideline for Lyme disease.
