We are a charity supporting unpaid carers who care for friends, family and neighbours with short and long term illnesses or disabilities, including mental health, addiction, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Carers Support was established in 1994. We provide free high quality advice, guidance and support to unpaid carers from Ashford, Shepway and Swale. Our primary aims are to provide timely and appropriate services to carers from the age of 16 years, whether they care for a family member, neighbour or friend.
We are a voluntary organisation and an independent charity with a board of trustees We are primarily funded, by Kent County Council and Clinical Commissioning Groups, to provide Carers Assessments and support services. We are also a network partner of The Carers’ Trust.
Lots of people do not realise that they are ‘carers’, they just do the right thing for the people they love and don’t expect any help. We understand that unpaid carers often experience a sense of isolation, stress, guilt and anger and that caring can also be very emotionally draining. Suddenly their lives can change and they become a dependable support for a loved one.
By providing information, emotional and practical and financial support, we aim to ease the stress unpaid carers find themselves under, and help them to be better equipped for their caring role, enabling carers to care for longer and become empowered within their role.
