Objectives

Our aim is to improve the quality of life for carers in Brighton & Hove

In working towards our vision we will:

  • Provide services for carers to help them cope with their situation, get the support to which they are entitled, and to participate in the community of our city
  • Campaign to raise awareness of carers and ensure that carers have a real voice in order to influence local public services, to improve the support they offer to carers and to the people they care for and to promote support for families that reduces the reliance on children as carers
  • Identify and reach out to hidden and isolated carers to ensure that they have access to services
  • Aim to be a model of good practice in all that we do.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to the lives of carers by encouraging a wider recognition of their caring role; enabling them to fulfil their own needs as individuals and offering them appropriate support.

Activities

We offer a variety of services to carers.  We run monthly coffee mornings in different parts of the city which allow carers to get together and offer peer support and share expertise.  We run surgeries with experts in different aspects of life that pertain to caring, including legal and financial.  We had dedicated teams of support workers who work with adult and young carers, and two support workers who work specifically with bereaved carers.  We also run engagement work, reaching out to many of the hidden carers in the city.  We have a project which matches carers with volunteers, who support them to learn new skills or achieve other goals.

We are currently raising funds to buy a caravan on the south coast, which we will then rent out at a subsidised rate that will allow carers to take cheap holidays.
