Objectives

Carer Support Wiltshire is a charity that aims to ensure that all unpaid carers across Wiltshire are supported.  A carer is someone who helps a friend or family member who could not manage alone. Carers' lives are frequently negatively impacted by their caring role. Through our services we seek to:

  1. improve carers' health and well-being
  2. make choices about their caring role and access the right services and support for them
  3. reduce financial worries
  4. ensure carers are better understood and valued in the wider community
  5. help carers influence services.

We provide free information, advice, training, breaks and emotional support to any carer aged 16 or over. We work with carers, volunteers and other organisations and employers to improve their identification of carers and to develop best practice in relation to carers, and raise awareness of carers' issues.

There are over 47,500 carers in Wiltshire (according to the 2011 census) and we are currently in contact with over 10,000 (or over 20%) of them.

Activities

Carer Support Wiltshire provides support services including carers' assessments, individual and group support, information, advice, training, and "time out" activities. We ensure carers have a voice to influence health and social care strategy via our carer involvement strand and via our participation in consultations and forums.  We work with other organisations and employers to improve their identification of carers and to develop best practice in relation to carers, as well as raising awareness of carers' issues through public relations and events.
