CareNow Volunteers impacts the residents of care homes, the carers and the volunteers themselves. A social evaluation has shown that CareNow Volunteers contributes to a decreased loneliness for residents of care homes, an increase in staff time releasing them to focus on more nursing care activity, which also decreases stress for staff working within care home.

CareNow Volunteers works with other Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Organisations to find volunteering placements for their beneficiaries.  Placing motivated volunteers within a care home setting benefits them with an increased sense of wellbeing and increased employability. We strive to help our volunteers into paid roles (currently 24%) which ultimately improves the Care Sector workforce development and retention.

Research proves that it is important that older people in care homes stay connected with their local community to reduce the risk of feeling lonely and isolated which can impact their health and wellbeing.

CareNow Volunteers recruits people who are interested in volunteering in the care sector in Cornwall and matches them with care homes where they can help reduce loneliness and isolation of care home residents whilst building their own skills and confidence. Our team of coordinators build relationships with volunteers ensuring their needs and aspirations are met and maintain support  through their placement. In parallel care homes are also supported to understand how best to host volunteers within their setting and the benefits of volunteering.

Volunteers assist with activities such as spending time chatting over a cup of tea, supporting and encouraging the residents to take part in activities, playing a game or helping in the garden.
