Objectives

We believe every child in Camden has the right to an enriching music education.

Camden Music Trust is a charity that helps children and young people living in Camden access music education regardless of any difficult or financial circumstances. In Camden almost 32% of children living in the borough live below the poverty line, for these children gaining access to music tuition can be extremely difficult, if not impossible. This is a real issue that Camden Music Trust is committed to addressing and we have ambitious plans to expand and enrich musical provision in Camden to help more children.

It’s more than music: A love of music is developed at a young age and nurtured throughout our lives. Music inspires, excites, uplifts, connects… BUT it does so much more. Music can help in all areas of a child’s development; it builds confidence and self-esteem, supports academic achievement, improves sociability, fosters discipline and patience and promotes creativity. These soft skills are vitally important in the growth and wellbeing of children and young adults – raising aspiration and opening up life chances.

Activities

We raise money for

We help fund a broad range of music education programmes delivered through the Camden Music Hub, which is a collaboration of Camden Music Service and other music partners. Camden Music Hub provides high quality musical opportunities for over 5,000 Camden school children every year. All money raised goes towards:

  • Securing scholarships for highly talented children living below the poverty line and children living with disabilities.
  • Offering a diverse range of inclusive music programmes and performances that encourage and inspire all children to aim high.
  • Running costs of Saturday music centres and 35 youth ensembles (Jazz groups, orchestras and choirs) and holiday courses.
  • Purchasing musical instruments for loan for children and young people facing challenging circumstances.
  • Delivering mentoring and support schemes for children and parents.
