Objectives

The provision of information, advice and support to unpaid carers i.e family members or friends who care for someone with a long term illness or disability

Activities

Through Carer Support Workers (CSW) 1:1 and group support is provided including advocacy. We have specialist workers for the African, Caribbean & Asian communities and for carers looking after someone with a learning disability. CSW's are based in hospital giving support around discharge and specifically for those caring for someone who has experienced a stroke. We offer a counselling service, Carers Information Register , quarterly newsletter and Flexible Breaks Scheme.
With respect to staff, the organisation has almost doubled in size in 3 years. A recent review determined that some re-structuring is required and that a priority is to increase Board membership. The Board is currently weak in its skill mix. It should be said that it is a challenging but exciting time for the organisation.
Camden Carers Centre is financially sound - contracts exist with the local authority and the organisation was recently the recipient of a medium sized legacy. However, it is acknowledged that the organisation does need to diversify its funding source.
