Calthorpe Community Garden is a vibrant oasis in central London, dedicated to creating a welcoming green space for young people and the wider community. As the ‘back-garden’ many inner-city residents lack, Calthorpe offers social and therapeutic horticulture, sports, and community support to over 30,000 visitors each year.
Our diverse activities are designed to engage young people, providing them with a safe, inclusive space to connect with nature and each other. Through hands-on gardening sessions, sports, and creative workshops, we help reduce isolation and promote physical and mental well-being. Calthorpe also supports marginalised groups, including neurodiverse young people and those with disabilities, by offering tailored programmes that foster a sense of belonging and empowerment.
Open seven days a week, we achieve our aims through the followingprogrammes:● Horticultural volunteering and training for young and older people, peoplewith learning disabilities and mental health issues as well as the general public.● Sustainable food growing incorporating an innovative closed loop foodcycle and food waste recycling demonstration site, allotments for local residents, hosting a food cooperative and providing community lunches twice weekly.● Supervised arts and environmental activities for children aged 0-14 andtheir families during weekends and school holidays.● Sports development including football coaching and training for disabledpeople, children, women and young people and walking football for older people● Wellbeing services for refugees being temporarily housed in Camden.
