We help any local person who is struggling to make ends meet, by providing a community pantry which redirects waste and donated food to members who make a small contribution and come to us for a weekly shop. We help them stretch their budgets and make their money go further, and empower them through choice, helping them to get back on their feet.
This is especially relevant in the current cost of living crisis, and we’re supporting a large number of families and individuals locally in a range of circumstances to ensure they have good quality food on the table. We also redirect food from local sources which would have gone to waste, achieving a secondary objective of reducing food waste.
Our help matters to local people because increasingly they have nowhere else to turn. We differ from other services locally due to being a self-referral organisation which supports people for the medium term.
We provide a community pantry operation in central Burgess Hill serving the people of Mid Sussex. This creates a shopping experience for members where they're able to access a range of food items for a small cost, making their money go further and helping them get back on their feet.
We also seek to signpost appropriately to, and work with other organisations locally, such as the Mid Sussex Food Partnership.
