Objectives

We provide a free local news and information service for the blind and partially sighted in the London Borough of Bromley. The News is recorded at our studio each week and sent out on memory sticks to the blind and partially sighted in the borough and includes features, local events, letters and sport. This includes free delivery and return for the registered blind and partially sighted as part of the Royal Mail ‘Articles for the Blind scheme’.  Keeping up to date helps to maintain an active interest in life and the community and helps to ease the isolation of being sight impaired. The features section includes events for both the sighted and sight impaired which they can attend.

Activities

We have a dedicated team of volunteers including editors, readers and presenters who compile the News each week. A team of copyists ensure that the memory sticks are updated and posted each week to around 200 blind or sight impaired residents in the Borough of Bromley.  The Board of Trustees hold regular meetings to report on their department and discuss any issues arising. The Board includes a new Head of Marketing who is working on raising our public profile and increasing the number of listeners.
