Objectives

BLFF will tackle food insecurity and inequality in Bristol by awarding grants and support to community food projects!

The Bristol Local Food Fund (BLFF) is a new city-wide fund launching in 2021. The vision of BLFF is of a city where everyone can access good quality, affordable food, regardless of their background or situation.

Bristol has an amazing food and drink culture, but 1 in 20 homes in the city struggles to access enough food to eat. This problem is called ‘food insecurity’. There are so many brilliant community food projects in Bristol tackling food insecurity, but they need funding and support. That’s why Bristol Local Food Fund is being launched. It’s a new fund for the community food projects that are helping to build a fairer food system in our city. The fund will prioritise people and communities that are most in need, giving access to good quality, affordable and culturally appropriate food. The funds will be allocated by a Citizens Panel, made up of local people with experience of food insecurity.

To kick-start the fund, we want to raise £100,000 with a Crowdfunder campaign, and we need your help.

Activities

The project is working in collaboration with stakeholders and partners across the city to raise consistent funds and will prioritise diversity, equity and inclusion. Grants will be awarded through a process of participatory grant-making, where people that the fund aims to help will make many of the decisions about how the grant funding process is designed, and how grants are awarded. This process will be led by a diverse and representative Advisory Panel of people from across our city, with lived experience of food insecurity, who will be paid for their expertise and time.

As a first step, we're keen to build a diverse and inclusive team of volunteers that will support the launch and delivery of our crowdfunding campaign.
