Bridging Barriers is a charity focused on providing equal access to opportunities for ethnically diverse and low socioeconomic young people aged 18-25 who are typically undergraduate students, unemployed graduates and early careers professionals in the UK. We primarily support young people with their personal and professional development through mentoring, by pairing them with mentors who support them with their personal development to boost their soft skills and employability skills such as leadership and time-management, as well as professional development such as developing their CV and expert career insights and advice. Since launching in October 2020, we have been able to support more than 400 young people. This has been achieved with 1 volunteer and no paid employees. Since January 2023, we have now built a team of volunteers who represent our target audience and are passionate about supporting the next generation of talented, ambitious underrepresented young people. After receiving feedback from our candidates, we are now looking to expand our services to not just support young people through mentoring, but also through work experience opportunities, virtual masterclasses, in person networking events and workshops.
We partner with educational institutions and aim to partner with corporates and other social enterprises to widen our reach to support more young people.
