Objectives

Bridging Arts is a charity that tackles difficult issues in society with art and art-related activities. We give people without a voice a platform and the chance to speak out.

Our projects, exhibitions, events and workshops bring people of different cultures, interests and backgrounds together to interact, create and learn.

We're currently working on the centenary of World War One in Cornwall and France: this project, Heart of Conflict, is now in its fourth year.

Our impressive track record of successful projects includes:

'Whatever It Takes' started in summer 2012 with a contest for a 'Cornish Skateboard' we ran a free competition across Cornwall and beyond with one of the UK's leading skateboarders, Nick Jensen. It ended up as a free exhibition at Heartlands, Cornwall in autumn 2012.

'I Packed This Myself', working with migrant workers and local communities in Cornwall. The aim: to bring people and groups together to increase understanding and break down prejudice.

'Stitch', exploring links between pattern, place and heritage. We looked initially at Islamic traditions of embroidery and pattern and developed sewing kits and created an Education Pack with the Royal School of Needlework.

Activities

We commission work, stage and tour exhibitions, develop Education packs and offer workshops to engage audiences.

How do we start? We work with volunteers, local groups, historians, librarians, social workers and teachers.... Once we've identified an issue that needs tackling, we work with these groups to develop a project that will give people a chance to speak out and bring about change.
