Objectives

Breakthrough UK is a Manchester based disabled people's organisation and promotes the rights, responsibilities and respect of disabled people. We aim to change society by working with individuals, employers and other organisations to identify and remove disabling barriers which prevent disabled people from accessing services, employment and being independent. We aim for a society where disabled people are able to be active citizens and fully participate in, and contribute to, society and their communities. We provide a range of person-centred services which enable and support disabled people to have the skills and confidence to live independently. We also aim to ensure disabled people understand and are able to self advocate for their rights and that they are valued by people in our society. We provide specialist employment services to support disabled people who are furthest from the job market into volunteering, training and employment.

Activities

We work with individual disabled people, community groups, employers and other service providers to increase disabled people's participation in employment and community activities. We have community connecting, independent living and employment services and projects.

Through our engagement with disabled people we gather evidence of their lived experiences and use this to influence public policy makers and decision makers at local and national level, ensuring that disabled people are heard.
