Objectives

By 2025, there will be around 1 million more workers over the age of 50 than in 2020, and 300,000 fewer workers under the age of 30. Increasingly, the older workforce is the workforce.  The Centre for Ageing Better suggests helping older workers reach their full potential is key to improving productivity in the UK.

Brave Starts, a not-for-profit organisation established in 2020, was born out of a frustration that there was little attention being paid to development for a significant population of older employees, or more experienced workforce, aged over 50. We recognise people are just as ready, willing and able to learn and develop skills in their 20's as in their 50's/60's.

Our values are around sharing content that is evidence based and that works.  We believe in the power of community to support and help people make a change.  We believe age can be your best ever asset.  Our mission is to make fuller working lives a reality for all.

Our key objective is to provide and support people wanting to develop skills which open up more opportunities to stay engaged with work for longer.   Specifically, we help those thinking of making changes connect with, meet and in some cases (less so with Covid) chances to shadow experts doing the job they’re thinking of doing next. Our aim is also to facilitate these opportunities through corporate programmes that deliver the maximum social impact for existing employees.

100% of our fees support the small businesses or charities we work with, so our delegates effectively 'give' as they learn. The reason for this is we believe passionately in supporting the more ‘experienced’ workforce and in creating social change in organisations.
